de São Vicente is the Oldest Lighthouse
in Portugal.
Monks
lit a fire for the first time here in
1515.
The
Monastery grew, and a new tower was built
in 1846,
by
Perreira da Silva.

It
stands 25.7 meters high and 86 meters
above the sea and has a Range of 32 miles.
It was automated in 1982.

Its
Characteristic is 1 Flash every 5 secs.

This
lighthouse was closed to the public while
construction work was carried out.

Hence
the Crane.

A
